Every city sees its fair share of businesses come and go – all to often leaving a hole in the hearts of the community. For many in St. John’s, Hava Java was the first real cafe we were able to experience – it was the centre of all things social, our meeting place long before social media, and the food was pretty awesome too! Ballistic (Skate and Snow) kept everyone in the latest clothing, skateboards and more for 20+ years. For the first time St. John’s had a place you could get the cool stuff in our own city, no more ordering your decks from ads in magazines. Or Peace-A-Chord, the youth and social justice festival started in 1985 and continued well in to the 2000s – it was were many of us first got inspried to start bands or take up a social cause. For years Peace-A-Chord was the most anticipated weekend of the summer and gave us memories we’ll have forever…
Those are just a couple of the stories that motivated this new print – we hope it will send you down memory lane and be a fun conversation starter in your home.
